Making a Wonderphone Yourself
Making a Wonderphone yourself is a fun and meaningful project! It comes down to converting an old PTT rotary telephone (T65) by building a small computer/MP3 player into it.
Required Materials and Approach
Making a Wonderphone is a technical project and requires basic knowledge of electronics and soldering.
Below you find an overview of the components you need:
1. The basics
- The telephone: An old PTT rotary telephone (type T65).
- Wonderphone circuit board, the ‘Brains’: A small computer/MP3 player. An Arduino-like microcontroller is used for this, in combination with an MP3 decoder and an SD card reader.
2. Other components
- Speaker: A small speaker to replace the original speaker in the receiver.
- Power supply: A 5V USB power supply and a micro-USB cable.
- SD Card: For storing the music files.
- Tools: Soldering iron, pliers, screwdrivers, and a glue gun.
The Wonderfoon kit contains all the necessary electronics and components to perform the transformation. You only need an old PTT T65 rotary dial telephone yourself.
